Week beginning 1st August - Preschool Physical Health Project

This week our little learners in the Butterflies room continued their learning journey exploring nature through their physical health interest. To continue extending on children's interests we began the week exploring their physical health through a gymnastics activity and continuing discussions and learning about healthy oral hygiene (1/8).

Physical Activity

The children began their gymnastic sessions discussing the link between healthy eating and physical activity as a group. Our little learners observed as their educator demonstrated different gymnastics moves that they to then had a turn demonstrating. The senior preschoolers also continued to learn about their physical health through a mindfulness yoga experience (2/8). The children listened a beautiful story about yoga and what the different poses mean. The children then used the yoga mats, also pairing up with their peers to do partner's yoga.

Throughout the week we continued to explore how to develop our physical health and we discussed swimming (3/8). We listened to a wonderful story about swimming and learning swim safety rules. We then demonstrated one by one how we swim with our group. We also linked our learning to the Commonwealth games (4/8). We looked at articles and talked mainly about swimming and children recalled what they learnt the previous day. We also engaged in some gymnastics and engaged in a ball game. To end another wonderful week of learning our senior butterflies recapped the relationship between physical activity and healthy eating. They were inquisitive learners and responded to questions with their already existing knowledge about health and physical activity (5/8).

Dental Oral Hygiene

The Butterflies continued their learning journey about oral hygiene and keeping our teeth clean (1/8). During a creative arts activity the children created a masterpiece of their own toothbrush and also drawing a tooth. Using blue shaving cream and the tooth brushes they made they then cleaned the tooth on their paper. Children also recalled how they brush their teeth at home.

The junior butterflies continued their dental exploration learning their letters on a mouth drawing to continue developing their letter recognition skills through learning activity. Our junior butterflies continued exploring unhealthy and healthy foods for our teeth (3/8). Children identified the different foods and placed these on their tooth and had discussions about what unhealthy foods do to our teeth. As we moved further into the week our preschoolers engaged in a group experience creating a large cut out mouth that they use to demonstrate healthy dental care (4/8). To end another wonderful week of learning our junior butterflies created a large mouth and used cotton balls as teeth (5/8).

We also had a dental visit which the children were all very excited and active participants in this fun and exciting visit (5/8).
