This week our little learners in the Caterpillars 2 room continued their learning journey exploring nature through their weather interest. To continue extending on children's interests beginning the week creating a rainy and sunny day collage (8/8). Our little learners explored different weather patterns through pictures, books and outdoor play. Children observed that when it is sunny there is sun and a blue sky. Children then compared a sunny day is the opposite to a rainy day that can have big clouds that cover the sky and cause rain to occur. Through this art experience the caterpillars stuck a sun and a cloud and painted the rain drops using their fingerprints.
To further explore our weather interest the children throughout the week were curious learners what stormy weather looks and learnt about the big grey clouds that can form (10/8). To further extend their understanding of storms the children engaged in a thunderstorm painting activity using grey and white paint for the stormy clouds and blue paint for the rain.
The caterpillars continued having a discussion about their choice of activity. The children through their choice chose a creative arts experience where they used to paint fluffy clouds and make rain drops on their paper.
To conclude another wonderful week of learning the caterpillars made an imaginary cloud (12/8). The children used shaving foam and blue paint making a really soft texture where children excitedly used their hands to explore their blue cloudy creation.
What the caterpillars have learnt this week:
* Exploring science and assisting children to make observations and learn about the climate.
* Exploring climate, weather patterns and seasons through various areas of learning e.g. creative arts experiences.
* Exploring their senses through activities promoting opportunities for sensory exploration.
Next week (week beginning 15th August) the Caterpillars will continue:
* Weather patterns
* Learning about the clouds through different experiences.
